The monument “Glory to Labor” was one of Harutyunyan’s last monumental works. It is a mighty and impetuous in movement figure of a workman that has become the epitome of the power of human spirit.
The monument has been dismantled in 1997.

Cast iron and granite. Height: 11m.

The prominent art critic of the XX century V. Tseltner wrote: “Here the sculptor embodies the heroic image that attracts him most, still staying loyal to the truth of life grasped by him during his lifetime. He rarely managed to bring together so many realities of the present time; they have made the image of the modern worker specifically significant. But this set of signs of the epoch is definitely not the main point of the monument. All the significant things are shown in the language of plasticity, volume, mass and form, as in all the best works of the master. It is like our very time, his move, a worker’s march full of confidence.”"
The establishment of the monument in one of Yerevan’s industrial areas on an uncomfortable and empty territory turned it into a complete space now called Labor square.

The creation of this monument by Harutyunyan has largely predetermined the emergence of new trends in contemporary sculpture. Among the people, the monument is known as “Worker”.
In the 90's, during the blockade and destruction, the failed corrupt officials who brought the country to poverty organized a campaign against the monument trying to relieve the tension caused by discontent with the authorities. In 1997 it had been barbarously broken into pieces and disseminated. The news dealt a terrible blow to the creator, who had put his soul into the work. This act of vandalism was hard to survive for him. The area has lost its meaning and value and is now crowded with shops and sales outlets.
